Job Description

Position Summary

The Compliance Lead Analyst is responsible for drafting, preparing, filing, and obtaining approval from State Departments of Insurance of regulated forms and reviewing advertising materials for compliance of applicable regulations. The Compliance Lead Analyst is also responsible for mentoring and training new Compliance Analysts in processes and procedures for drafting and filing. Additional duties include participation in new product development, reviewing legislative updates, communicating product changes to other departments within the organization, preparing and submitting state and federal compliance reports as needed, and other duties as assigned.

In addition, the Compliance Lead Analyst is responsible for the implementation and ongoing information input into the Compliance Document Retention database. In order to perform that function there is a dotted line reporting relationship from the Compliance Analyst Lead to the Sr. Legal Administrative Assistance for the Information Governance Project.

Essential Functions

  • Represents the Compliance Department on the Product Development Committee.
  • Researches State Insurance Laws and Regulations for applicability to new and existing products for Individual and Group products.
  • Mentors and trains new Compliance Analysts in processes and procedures for drafting and filing
  • Creates initial drafts of new products for internal review. Incorporates internal changes and prepares final draft for submission to regulatory bodies.
  • Files products in assigned sates, corresponds with State Departments of Insurance and other regulatory personnel to resolve issues, explain product nuances, and diplomatically defend language so policies and contract forms are approved in a timely manner.
  • Reviews existing products for accuracy and compliance with changing state laws/regulations.
  • Ensures contracts and their related forms remain in compliance with changing laws, regulations, and requirements of each jurisdiction including any drafting required language changes, necessary regulatory filings, and implementation.
  • Responsible for Information Governance Project to see documents placed in the Compliance Document Retention Database.
  • Supervises Sr. Legal Administrative Assistant in processing documents for Information Governance Project. (Dotted line relationship)
  • Reviews advertising materials for errors and potential misstatements.
  • Maintains product information in a mainframe database of forms available for sale.
  • Develops and maintains instructions for new application processors regarding the issuance of policy and rider forms for assigned states.
  • Maintains the compliance calendar and assure deadlines are met for required filings.
  • Prepares and submits required Compliance reports as needed
  • Maintains status charts for filings and approvals of new products.
  • Other Compliance projects as assigned.
  • Answers compliance questions from employees in other departments.

Job Requirements

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated experience with life/health insurance form filings, life/health insurance advertising review, and/or general insurance compliance. Preferred experience: Compliance with both Individual and Group products

  • Proficiency in operation of PC based systems, including Microsoft Office Software

  • Evidence of strong ability to understand laws, statutes, and regulations for both Individual and Group Products
  • Ability to perform legal research using the internet and INSource
  • Completion of insurance related certification programs, including LOMA’s, ACS, ALMI, FLMI, or AIRC
  • Ability to be flexible, multitask and shift priorities on a continuing basis while meeting deadlines
  • Able to work both independently and within a team environment
